Dankook University Graduate School of IT Law Cooperative Program Industrial Security Specialist Training Program...
On May 16, 2022, law firm Hanbyeol (attorneys An Byung-han, Kim Seong-woo, and Kim Su-hyun) signed a business partnership with Dankook University Graduate School’s IT Law cooperative program Industrial Security Specialist Training Project Group at the Jukjeon campus to expand information sharing and personnel exchanges and operate joint programs, pledging cooperation on corporate security legal practice, management, contracts, and education. Under the Industrial Technology Protection Act, Dankook is one of five universities running the industrial security training program, and the partners will jointly carry out security consulting, IP transactions and technology transfer contracts, inventor compensation standards, commissioned technology contracts, strategic items export/import control, escrow for technology transfers between large firms and SMEs, and practical legal training for graduate students, while systematizing industrial security management and providing legal advisory services as a long-term collaboration.

Advised on the sale of the nation's largest hydrogen gas supplier
Hanbyeol Law Firm (attorneys Kim Suhyun, Kim Seong-woo, Ahn Byun-han) successfully completed the sale of an approximately KRW 850 billion stake in Dukyang Co., the country's largest hydrogen gas supplier, and its subsidiary. From the MOU signed on September 1, 2021 until closing on December 3, 2021, within a limited timeframe the firm handled legal due diligence, execution of the main contract, internal shareholder share adjustments and decision procedures, and other legal issues arising from the sale, responding promptly to issues and playing a key role in securing fair consideration for the seller's stake through negotiations with the buyer.

[Attorney Lee Yoon Chul] Appointed as an arbitrator at the Korea Commercial Arbitration Center
Attorney Lee Yoon-chul (bar exam class 43) of law firm Hanbyeol has been appointed as an arbitrator at the Korean Commercial Arbitration Board (KCAB). KCAB handles domestic and international commercial disputes and its arbitration awards carry the same effect as final court judgments; arbitrators are strictly selected by the Arbitrator Management Committee based on experience, education and expertise (e.g., 10+ years of legal or practical experience, or 5+ years as a university professor). With this appointment, law firm Hanbyeol now has four arbitrators: advisor Choi Young-ryong and attorneys Lee Seung-ho, Song Soo-hyun and Lee Yoon-chul.

Law Firm Hanbyul Signs Business Agreement with Dankook University Startup Support Group
Dankook University's Startup Support Center signed an MOU with law firm Hanbyul to provide tailored free legal support for (prospective) startups. The agreement offers partner-attorney services to prevent legal risks in advance, ensure rapid remedies in disputes, and provide comprehensive startup support including mentoring, marketing, and legal services for technology transactions. The Startup Support Center has been selected for three consecutive years as a Leading Startup University and, over the past two years, has helped discover about 50 startups, achieve total sales of ₩4.1 billion, file/register around 80 patents, and create roughly 60 jobs.

The Small and Medium Business Corporation formed an Integrity and Ethics Management Committee and appointed three external members to strengthen ethics management and anti-corruption efforts. It merged the previous Ethics Management Committee (since 2012) and the Clean SBC Task Force (since 2015), appointing Jang Beom-sik (Sungshil University provost), Lee Young-myeon (Dongguk University professor), and Choi Young-ryong (head attorney at Hanbyul law firm) to oversee major policy deliberations and decisions, draft an ethics charter, address anti-corruption weak spots, and promote an integrity culture.

Law firm Hanbyeol held its 14th anniversary on the 19th at a restaurant in Yeoksam-dong, Seoul, with about 90 lawyers and staff attending, and also held a retirement ceremony for managing partner Kim Yong-won (63, Judicial Research and Training Institute class 10), who has served since 2007. Kim, a former prosecutor in the Hyeongjebokjiwon (Brother Home) case, plans to run in the April 2020 general election, and attorney Jeon Seong-hoon said Hanbyeol has grown steadily over 14 years and recently expanded its office to recruit experienced mid-career lawyers.

The Ministry of Justice launched the immigration policy academic journal Migration and Integration on the 16th. The inaugural issue includes six papers (four research articles and two practical studies) and will be distributed in print and electronic formats to promote scholarly research and the development of immigration policy.

The redevelopment of Yeouido Simbeom Apartment is gaining momentum through the trust-based approach. With Korea Asset Trust selected as the preliminary trustee and over 75% owner consent secured, a formal trust contract is planned for early next year, and the accelerated schedule could potentially avoid the excess profit recapture system effective at the end of 2017. The trust model allows the trust company to finance and lead the project, shortening the process by 1–3 years and providing professional oversight, but trust fees—typically 3–4% of construction costs—pose an added burden for owners and will determine whether this becomes a new trend for large Seoul redevelopments.

This article argues that competition law, including the Fair Trade Act, should be applied more actively to regulate publicity rights and unfair transactions between athletes and organizations in the professional sports industry. Using the Lee Yong-dae sponsorship conflict as an example, it contends that associations can qualify as 'business operators' or 'business associations' under the Fair Trade Act and that exclusive-dealing, abuse of superior bargaining position, and other unfair practices should be checked with procedural safeguards and compensation mechanisms.

Under the agreement, they will collaborate on tailored legal assistance to prevent legal risks from the early stages and secure remedies in disputes, as well as mentoring, marketing, and legal support for technology transactions. Dankook’s Startup Support Group has been selected for the 'Leading University for Startups' program three years in a row and has achieved results in discovering startups, sales, patents, and job creation.
