Notarization Information

Although the word "notarization" may sound unfamiliar, it is a system that offers many advantages in terms of convenience and practicality in our daily lives. The notarization system was established when the Joseon Notarization Decree (Imperial Decree No. 13) was enacted on March 17, 1913, and promulgated and implemented from May 1 of the same year, creating a professional notary public system that was also applied in Korea.

The current Notary Public Act was enacted and promulgated as Act No. 723 on September 23, 1961. Subsequently, the notarization system underwent a major innovation with the enactment and promulgation of the Special Act on Handling Civil Dispute Cases through Summary Procedures in 1970. With the comprehensive amendment of the Attorney-at-Law Act as Act No. 3594 on December 31, 1982, attorneys were able to establish law firms to perform their duties in an organized and professional manner, and law firms became able to perform work belonging to the duties of notaries.
