Hanbyul Law Firm Lectures to the Seoul City Council - Attorney Jeon Sung Hoon
|Medical Times Choi Seon Reporter| The Seoul Medical Association has organized a special lecture in connection with the recent death of a urologist in Ansan City who allegedly committed suicide due to a coercive on-site inspection.
In the lecture, titled "How to Handle Industrial Complex Inspections," the Seoul Medical Association plans to collect frequent complaints and inquiries from members regarding on-site inspections and provide concrete countermeasures.
According to the Seoul Medical Association on Friday, the medical association has planned a program on "How to be well-investigated in industrial complexes" as a special lecture at its 14th academic congress, which will be held at the Maria Hall of the Sungkyunkwan of Seoul St. Mary's Hospital at Catholic University of Korea on March 28.
The medical association believes that the majority of its members are still unaware of the rights and procedures of the investigated parties.
"Even when we hold academic conferences, only a few people attend each time, so most of the members do not know how to respond to on-site investigations and due diligence," said Kim Sook-hee, president of the Seoul Medical Association, adding, "It seems like they listen in one ear and spill out the other thinking that they will be investigated."<"The biggest problem is that members who do not pay dues or participate in the medical society are poorly informed," he said, adding, "That is why mistaken billing occurs and they end up suffering damage."
"Recently, there was also a case of the death of the director of a urological institution," he said, "so we have gathered questions related to frequent on-site investigations from members of each district medical society."
The lecturer was Jeon Sung-hoon, a lawyer at Hanbyul Law Firm, who is the legal counsel of the Seoul Medical Association.
Members' main questions included what to pay attention to when undergoing an on-site investigation, whether there is a disadvantage for signing a confirmation letter, and how to deal with not being informed of an investigation in advance.
"Although it is bitter to be caught unaware, it is important to learn how to deal with it in advance," said Kim Sook-hee, chairwoman of the association.
"The medical-political council has proposed a way for the medical association to accompany the medical association's staff during field inspections," he said, adding, "If the Welfare Ministry allows it, we will cooperate with the medical association to implement the staff dispatch plan."
